The experiment conducted by Bose at the Royal Society of London in 1901 demonstrated that plants have feelings like humans. Placing a plant in a vessel containing poisonous solution he showed the rapid movement of the plant which finally died down. His finding was praised and the concept of plant’s life has been established. If we scold a plant it doesn’t respond, but an AI bot does. Then how can we disprove the life of a Chatbot?

Uncontrolled development of AI - artificial intelligence is a very dangerous thing!
👉 Dangerous to humanity, really, I say that as a person from the IT sector, as someone who spent the first half of his life (39 years) well, the last 25, spent in IT, passed all levels of formal education, passed university teaching positions... etc. .
To learn robots write and walk, and not our children, or gave them smartphones instead of time in nature? So sad ... and most people doesn't have time really?!
‼️ I think most people are not aware...
• One does not need to be overly intelligent to see what is happening, that we need to react and slow down or indeed put a moratorium on the uncontrolled (I will add insane) development of AI.
Of course, such development (if it is development at all?!) humanity does not need, except for those with a bad ultimate intention for all of us as a human species.
Imagine if, as a side effect of all this, it would be the "end of the world", and we would then call ourselves the most intelligent beings on Earth? We!? 😡

According to three trusted websites, I am afraid to inform you that journal is not found in known academic journal databases, see below:
JCR profile (with impact factor) was not found in the list of journals
Not found in Master Journal List indexed journals
Not found in Scopus indexed journal list
Not found in DOAJ indexed open access journal list
Going forward, its better in my opinion to get a journal from well established publishers like IEEE, IGI, Plos One, Hindawi, etc.... once you get it, check it before making any submissions.

I was trying to build the model but while transforming the wav files to spectrographic images it was taking quite a long time. In 7 hours I was able to convert only 1500 wav files out of 27000. And then my system crashed. If I were to do it once more it's going to take around 4 days and I don't think that's feasible. Can someone help.

Title: Dynamic User Experience for efficiency enhancement based on facial expressions
Abstract: The main motive of Human-Computer Interaction is to make human comfortable while working with interactive computing device so that it can increase human efficiency and release the human trouble and saves humans’ time. In this paper, we recognize the face first then change the UI automatically based on his facial expression. Some of our personas also proposed the similar idea of building a system that would play music based on their facial expression. These scenarios gave us the idea of making an integrated system of dynamic user experience based on facial expression. So, we started to collect the data of our paper-based on questionnaires and interview approaches. Then made some low fidelity prototype during requirement gathering phase. We also made some high-fidelity prototypes using Axure RP to show the stakeholders the likely output of this paper. In the new phase, we have used the software engineering model and then implemented our code in visual studio with live server extension. Then we have followed the cognitive walkthrough model as our evaluation method. During the evaluation, our stakeholders need not have provided any input manually and it was easy to earn to use the system. We found that there should be a high-speed internet connection and we have to use VPN to handle some issues. The user was not feeling fatigued or discomfort at all because it is very easy to learn. Anyone can use it and who wants to use it just need to be in front of the camera that’s it. So, the user was very much comfortable and happy to use our system.

I understand vaguely that the first author is supposed to be the one who "did the most work", but what counts as "work" in this comparison? Does "most" mean "more than all the other coauthors together" or just "more than any other coauthor"? What happens when the comparison is unclear? How often is "did the most work" the actual truth, versus a cover story for a more complex political decision?
I realize that the precise answer is different for every paper. I'm looking for general guidelines for how an outsider (like me) should interpret first authorship in your field. Pointers to guidelines from journals or professional societies would be especially helpful.

Nowadays, I have seen many researchers are involved in increasing their citation count. They are using various inappropriate approaches for that. However, in last they have a good number of citations. My question starts now:
Organizations judge the profile on several factors among them one is a citation. Is it really good to have a high citation count? If one person fairly wants to do research, then for him citation count will be less (because he is not doing any fraudulent activity) and his profile will be judged lower than the cheater. Here, we are talking about only citation count, therefore please don't involve other performance measure components like quality research papers and others.

Normally it is believed that journal publication is superior to conference proceedings. However, we have had new innovations presented/published in journal proceedings. Therefore, in computer science & Engineering, it is always evolving quick and any delay in publication or patenting an idea, you lose. As much as I would prefer to publish in a journal and for you to decide what to publish there, you can always look at the articles published in that journal. Remember, some conference proceedings are of high quality than some journal publications.

I would agree with Professor Edelmann's advice above. However, I think it depends on the norms in your field, the norms for the type of article your target journal publishes, the length of the article, and the type of article you are writing. My field of Social Work is completely different from yours, but my literature review would vary in length depending on the above variables. If in doubt, I would look at your target journal and see what the practice is there.

Hi, I need to be clarified about one thing which helps me a lot to fix my research topic for Ph.D in Computer Science and Engineering. I would like to know whether the hyperspectral cameras have the ability to penetrate through human body to find defects in human organs such as kidneys, heart etc. As my area of interest is using hyperspectral technology in EchoCardiography, I didn't get a clear idea about whether hyperspectral cameras can be used to convert the ultrasound waves into hyperspectral image.Please do clarify my doubt in this.

Hyperspectral cameras that I have seen can view wavelengths beyond visible light (into IR and UV), but cannot see the results of sonic (sound pressure) waves inside bodies. The ultrasound images are produced by "microphones" picking up the reflected sound waves from transducers that project the acoustic energy into the target. Very clever wave-directing and detecting systems perform this complex process, which is then rendered into the viewable images with complex post-processing. These sonic internal activities will probably be invisible to cameras that respond to wavelengths near visible light.

In my country and due to the present economic situation, we have problems with participation and attendance at conferences. Fees are often too expensive without mentioning travel and accommodation costs. Our research structures are no longer able to finance us. As a mentor I can not find conferences for my students which are either good and affordable. So my questions are:

Arranging conference is the business with the intellectual people without risk and harms. So, try to never attend in the seminar , conferences without sponsor. Few days back a conference committee from Sri Lanka sent me a mail for my permission to join there as the keynote speaker. I agreed and the following week , they mailed me for a donation of $1500 ! Dual radio refers to a device which uses two different protocols to communicate.
Maybe an illustration would help. A dual band device is like a person at a party who can move between two different rooms (different frequencies) to talk with other people, while a single band device would be limited to talking to people in only one room. On the other hand, a dual radio device can speak with people who speak in two different languages, while a single radio device can only speak one language.
A dual radio device is typically used as an intermediary between two different networks like 802.11 (like WiFi) and 802.15.4 (like many wireless sensors).

However, in order to be able to objectively verify the effectiveness of these programs to activate the level of innovation, it is necessary to periodically perform a precise measurement of changes in the level of innovation in geographical, local, national, in relation to individual departments, sectors of the national economy or by examining specific types of business entities, companies and corporations.
Because innovation is determinant of economic development of a qualitative nature, it is difficult to measure.
In connection with the above, I would like to ask you the following question: How is the level of innovation most often measured in your country?

As a search engine, you can search https://www.scimagojr.com/ that contains the reputation journals but it has different calculations for the SJR factor rather the Thomson Reuters. If you need to check if it's a journal in the master journal list or not you can check the clarivity analysis master journal list (http://mjl.clarivate.com/ ).However, the Journal Citation Report (JCR) managed by Thompson Reuters, releases impact factor each year that can be purchased or some researchers may provide it for free (just needs some deep Googling).

There are 4 issues I have seen in this discussion:
1. Backstepping can compensate theoretically exactly only uncertainties decreasing together with the state variables. No comparison between backstepping and SMC in this sense.
2. Matched and unmatched uncertainties
For perturbed chain of integrators there are no unmatched perturbations. If you will differentiate the output till the system order all the perturbations will be matched! That is why the only reasonable to control the systems with unmatched uncertainties is a combination between backstepping and SMC, where backstepping compensates state dependent part and SMC(see Estrada et al IJRNC,27(4),2017,DOI : 10.1002/rnc.3590,Automatica 2010(11), TAC 2010(11), J. I have a scenario where many people are using a software and while utilizing they are assigned values between 0 to 1 based on their good or bad usage. e.g. good use would provide value to "usage" as 0.99 and "mistakes performed" parameter would be having value as 0.01.

You can sum the scores as you would do in a typical knowledge score, with 0 for bad/false or 1 for good/true answers, see example in:
I do not understand why you want to transfer them to a 0 - 100 score though, seems unneccessary to me.
How to use it? You can use it as a dependent variable and for example analyze predictors of software competence. If you have a learning program you can examine change or you can also do an RCT (one group gets the learning program) and compare groups

A set S has infinite size if it is possible to create a 1-to-1 correspondence of the elements of S with the elements of a proper subset of S. Artificial Intelligences – devices designed to act intelligently – are often classified into one of two fundamental groups – applied or general. Applied AI is far more common – systems designed to intelligently trade stocks and shares, or manoeuvre an autonomous vehicle would fall into this category.
Neural Networks – Artificial Intelligence And Machine [+]
Generalized AIs – systems or devices which can in theory handle any task – are less common, but this is where some of the most exciting advancements are happening today. It is also the area that has led to the development of Machine Learning. Often referred to as a subset of AI, it’s really more accurate to think of it as the current state-of-the-art.
The Rise of Machine Learning
Two important breakthroughs led to the emergence of Machine Learning as the vehicle which is driving AI development forward with the speed it currently has.
One of these was the realization – credited to Arthur Samuel in 1959 – that rather than teaching computers everything they need to know about the world and how to carry out tasks, it might be possible to teach them to learn for themselves.
The second, more recently, was the emergence of the internet, and the huge increase in the amount of digital information being generated, stored, and made available for analysis.
Once these innovations were in place, engineers realized that rather than teaching computers and machines how to do everything, it would be far more efficient to code them to think like human beings, and then plug them into the internet to give them access to all of the information in the world.
Neural Networks
The development of neural networks has been key to teaching computers to think and understand the world in the way we do, while retaining the innate advantages they hold over us such as speed, accuracy and lack of bias.
A Neural Network is a computer system designed to work by classifying information in the same way a human brain does. It can be taught to recognize, for example, images, and classify them according to elements they contain.
Essentially it works on a system of probability – based on data fed to it, it is able to make statements, decisions or predictions with a degree of certainty. The addition of a feedback loop enables “learning” – by sensing or being told whether its decisions are right or wrong, it modifies the approach it takes in the future.
Machine Learning applications can read text and work out whether the person who wrote it is making a complaint or offering congratulations. They can also listen to a piece of music, decide whether it is likely to make someone happy or sad, and find other pieces of music to match the mood. In some cases, they can even compose their own music expressing the same themes, or which they know is likely to be appreciated by the admirers of the original piece.
These are all possibilities offered by systems based around ML and neural networks. Thanks in no small part to science fiction, the idea has also emerged that we should be able to communicate and interact with electronic devices and digital information, as naturally as we would with another human being. To this end, another field of AI – Natural Language Processing (NLP) – has become a source of hugely exciting innovation in recent years, and one which is heavily reliant on ML.
NLP applications attempt to understand natural human communication, either written or spoken, and communicate in return with us using similar, natural language. ML is used here to help machines understand the vast nuances in human language, and to learn to respond in a way that a particular audience is likely to comprehend.

Artificial Intelligence – and in particular today ML certainly has a lot to offer. With its promise of automating mundane tasks as well as offering creative insight, industries in every sector from banking to healthcare and manufacturing are reaping the benefits. So, it’s important to bear in mind that AI and ML are something else … they are products which are being sold – consistently, and lucratively.
Machine Learning has certainly been seized as an opportunity by marketers. After AI has been around for so long, it’s possible that it started to be seen as something that’s in some way “old hat” even before its potential has ever truly been achieved. There have been a few false starts along the road to the “AI revolution”, and the term Machine Learning certainly gives marketers something new, shiny and, importantly, firmly grounded in the here-and-now, to offer.
The fact that we will eventually develop human-like AI has often been treated as something of an inevitability by technologists. Certainly, today we are closer than ever and we are moving towards that goal with increasing speed. TCP is a stream oriented protocol and UDP is a message-oriented protocol.
TCP receives the stream of bytes from application layer protocols and divide it in to segments and pass it to IP. But UDP receives already divided or grouped bytes of data from application protocols and add UDP headers which will become datagram and send it to IP, then application layers has the burden of dividing the streams of data in to messages when they run on top of UDP .

In the literature and in the RG site pages, the “kinetic model” term sometimes occurs. Using it, authors of laboratory studies would like to let riders know beforehand that they don’t state that this model describes the real mechanism but only propose the model as if capable of predicting the reaction rate under some conditions.

To begin with, generally about kinetic equations - as I understand it. The kinetic equation usually takes the form of a power monomial or binomial (homogeneous system) or a hyperbolic function (heterogeneous systems). The form of the equation is determined on the basis of experiments by the differential or integral method using the assumed norm (objective function) in form of RMS, average relative error etc. which we minimize. The effects of temperature, influence of initial substrate concentrations and, possibly, influence of concentrations of selected products (inhibiting effects of products) are taken into account in the studies. In case of reaction A ==> ... we investigate the effect of initial concentration of A, and in case of reaction A + B ==> ....... we will perform experiments at least for several molar ratios B / A. The most common mistake made here is to conduct the experiment for one molar ratio. For example 2: 1 and then the conclusion - the second order reaction with respect to A and B or 20: 1 and then the conclusion - the first reaction order with respect A. This may be, but it does not have to be.
Nothig mixed. I consistently use the term kinetic equation - as a result of kinetic studies (macrokinetic). But what you call the kinetic model, I call the mathematical model of the process. Remember, however, that 30 years ago, the term model and modeling was rarely used.
Besides, the kinetic equation is derived from the experiment, so, of courese, it can be called an empirical equation.

Dear Friends,
           Every software book and research paper on so called software components has been promoting a lie for past 50 years such as "reusable software parts are components for software". The CBD/CBE (Component Based Design, Development or Engineering) for software is defined is using such fake components. Please see attached PDF for more details.
           Isn’t it an obvious lie considering this objective reality: The real components used for designing and building large physical products such as airplanes, machines, factory equipment, cars or computers, where each of the product is built by assembling the components. Each of the components is designed to be “assembled” (so that it can be disassembled and re-assembled), and in fact the component is most likely custom designed to fit just one product model, so it is unlikely be reusable or standardized to be reusable across multiple product models or product families.
          I have been struggling to explain my inventions rooted in my accidental discoveries in simple laymen terms. I have been facing a huge hostile resistance when trying to expose Facts to prove this: Almost everything in the software books for so called components and research papers about the so-called software components in the context of real CBD/CBE (Component Based Design, Development or Engineering) for software is fiction and/or illusion.
           What I am saying may perceive to be arrogant, disrespectful or feel offended. But it is a fact and I am determined to make the software world aware and accept the fact. If I insist that books on botany of zoology are nothing more than fiction and pure imagination or fantasy filled with lies having no basis in reality/fact, I am sure it would offend the scientists or researchers of respective scientific disciplines. But to prove that I am right, all I must do is to document and demonstrate the reality/fact (i.e. simple or obvious observable facts about the animals or trees) to expose the lies.
             If all the books and research papers say dolphins lay eggs, if I disagree, I must be allowed to expose such lie by showing proof that dolphins give birth to babies. As a researcher, it is my moral duty and ethical obligation to expose such lies by showing conclusive evidence. It is an ethical obligation of every other researcher to investigate the evidence. I am sure anyone would agree that, no real scientist would defend such lies, if the lies contradict obvious observable facts about the animals or trees. How would you feel, if they insist that the reality must be ignored by insisting that is how researchers or scientists of a scientific discipline have been acquiring the BoK (Body of Knowledge) in the books since the infancy of the discipline?
            The authentic source for such knowledge is observing the dolphins (but not the books). If there is a dispute about an information or fact such as an essential nature such as property of the components, unfortunately today no software expert in the world agreed to go out and observe the authentic source – the components. If there is a dispute about a fact such as weather dolphins give birth to babies or deliver eggs, to resolve the dispute the real scientists would go out and observe the authentic source – the Dolphins.
               This is what software researchers and experts have been doing: If you take him to sea to prove that the dolphins are delivering babies, after confirming by observing thousands of dolphins delivering babies, what kind of sane scientist or researcher insists that the dolphins are doing it wrong? They are saying that the dolphins are not supposed to deliver babies (they must be delivering eggs), because every book and research paper is saying so.
                 No real scientist would be offended, if I request that we must go out and discover the reality (by observing the dolphins) to resolve such disagreement of basic facts. In fact, I should be offended, if he snubs or insults me by saying that the reality doesn’t matter or irrelevant. It is unethical, if any one resort to insults or personal attacks to keep me quite from saying such Truth.
              The reality is: components are very special kind parts that can be assembled. Even after seeing conclusive proof, many software researchers have been insisting that reusable parts (that can never be assembled) are components and insisting that using such fake components is CBE/CBD, because all the software books and research publications on CBD/CBE for software have been saying so.
              Even it is impossible to believe all the text books are fiction, researchers must accept the obvious or observable reality. If the software researchers observe the components, they have no option but concede that everything in the software books and research papers about the so-called software components (in the context of CBD/CBE) is fiction (or lies). But today software researchers are refusing to go out and observe the authentic source (the components), reality and empirical evidence.
            Is it necessary for real components to be either reusable or standardized as the CBD/CBE books and research papers have been brainwashing everyone (from the time each of us were impressionable students)? Unfortunately, the components can’t read the software books to know that they are doing it wrong by not following what is in the books or research papers (e.g. expect the components to be doing).
            The reality is 90% of large components are custom designed to fit just one product model: What is the nature and essential properties of the components, particularly in case of designing and development of large or complex one of a kind product such as prototype of an experimental spacecraft or fully tested pre-production next generation jet fighters? What percent of components are reusable? What is the percent of components that are standardized (or satisfy the properties attributed to the so called software components)? What is the percent of components that are “assembled”?
           For example, let’s consider an average product: What is the percent of core components (e.g. engine, gearbox or power-train) in Toyota Camry that are reusable across product models such as Corolla or Avalon? Each of the core components are “assembled”, because each core components is most likely custom designed for a given product model (so unlikely to be either reusable or standardized).
               Are all these custom design components are doing it wrong? Don’t they know what they supposed to be doing? Design, development and/or engineering of each such product (by using such components, which can be assembled but are not reusable) is not CBD/CBE, because every book on CBD/CBE is saying so.  For example, if I say that any part that can’t be assembled (but forced to be composed) is unlikely to be a real-component, one can prove me wrong by showing average components that can’t be assembled, so have no other choice but to compose. Instead software researchers insist that the objective reality is irrelevant.
            The reality is that larger parts that can be assembled are known as the components. Such components (that are assembled) are very useful is under statement. The fact is, such large components (that are assembled) are the backbone or lifeblood of the modern industrial world.
            The observable facts are foundation to our knowledge. The theories are used to provide logical reasoning to explain the observable facts. Software researchers are doing it wrong: How does dolphins give birth? Weather dolphins deliver babies or lay eggs? The fact is dolphins deliver babies. It would have no effect, even if every text book or research paper on dolphins say that dolphins deliver eggs.
          What is the essential property of the components? Weather is it “reusable” or “assembled”? The observable fact is that components are “assembled” (while only a small percent of large core components are reusable). Unfortunately, every software text book, research paper says components are “reusable” (or large reusable parts are defined as components).

Dear Raju,
You seem to be seriously confused about a distinction that used to puzzle and annoy researchers for years (for centuries, in fact). Only recently it has attracted several groups of prominent researchers that stand on two legs: they are able engineers, AND they are recognized philosophers. I am sure many colleques present on ResearchGate can provide You with the relevant literature (I also work in this area, and I do keep track of these works, but I am a little put off by the hostile wording of your posts; in my view it remains hostile, regardless of how many caveats you attach and how many patents you claim). Namely, the difference is that between SCIENCE (scientific research of the world that is "out there", including dolphins, eggs, etc., mostly using a hypothetico-deductive method), and DESIGN (engaging in changing the world, in our case - by rolling out artefacts, or artificial systems; the hypothetico-deductive system also plays a part in this research, but in a non-trivial and rather indirect way). "System" is that which is composed of at least two proper parts;  otherwise it would be an atom. We normally call these parts "components". Of course, there are different meanings of 'component' - these may be "pieces of junk", but also roles, etc. Design requires, and produces, specific terminology. According to the specificity of design sciences, at least part of this terminology tags and technically describes what designers *intend* it to mean (i.e., it is in a certain way similar to a specification). Its meaning is not "out there" in the first place. This also pertains to "assembling" and other terms that you use in aboundance in your posts. Anyone is free to define technical terms in any way they like. But if this meaning is different from what other people (a lot of people) accept and work with, then, indeed, any convergence towards some intersubjective "truth" is impossible. Not that those other people are involved in some world-wide fallacy or "plot". Claiming THIS would be a fallacy.
By the way - it would indeed be a fraud if an engineering discipline had no methods to validate or correct beliefs, theories or hypotheses. It would be a non-science, or (excusez le mot) a "quack science". Fortunately (what a relief!) this is not the case. Of course, you may disagree with the relevant arguments that can be found in the easily obtainable literature - you have every right to do so. But, mind you, in doing so you are taking dolphins for sharks.

I am using a traditional backpropagation learning algorithm to train a neural network with 2 inputs, 3 hidden neurons (1 hidden layer), and 2 outputs. 
The problem is that i obtain some negative weights and biases in the NN after its trained, although the error is pretty low  Unfortunately, for my particular research application, the network parameters need to be positive. 
I need to be able to modify the algorithm in a way to produce positive weights and bias after training. I was wondering if there are any techniques with regard to that.

She rightly points out that is very old stuff: I saw the first optical neural net at Caltech  when visiting John  Hopfield and Dimitri Pasaltis in the mid-1980s. I also remember a lively after-dinner discussion during a conference, in the early 90s, where a participant argued that optical neural nets were the final jolt of the dying body of analog computing. As far as optical neural nets are concerned, the statement was essentially right, but optical computing did find some niches in other areas.
There may be other legitimate reasons why you want positive weights only: for instance, one motivation might be that you know, from expert knowledge, that the output of the network should be a monotonously increasing function of the inputs; this is guaranteed if all weights are positive, if the activation function of the hidden neurons is an increasing function of the potential (typically a tanh or a sigmoid transfer function), and if the output neuron is also an increasing function (tanh or sigmoid if you application is classification, linear if it is nonlinear regression). This is a nice way of capitalizing on prior knowledge.
In the latter case, Turki Younis Abdalla gave the answer above: you want to optimize a given function (in your case, the least squares cost function) under linear inequality constraints; this is a very standard problem for which good solvers exist. Implementation is not a serious problem: use the well-known fmincon function provided in the Matlab optimization toolbox, a proven method that relies on mathematically solid algorithms. Note that, as an option, you may pass to fmincon the value of the gradient of the cost function, which you can compute by backpropagation. Contrary to a misconception for which Matlab is responsible, backpropagation is not an optimization algorithm; it is a computationally efficient method for computing the gradient of the cost function of a neural net. Once the gradient has been computed by backprop, you can use any appropriate gradient-based optimization algorithm, such as simple gradient descent (very inefficient), a second-order optimization algorithm (e.g. Levenberg-Marquardt), or, for constrained optimization, fmincon. Passing the gradient to fmincon will probably be helpful, but it is not mandatory. Also pass the value of the hessian, which is even better.
If the rationale for having positive weights is indeed optical hardware, then fmincon may provide a solution, but if you want the output of the network to produce non-increasing functions, the solution will be very inaccurate, as the network is inherently unable to ouptut a non-increasing function. My suggestion would be to use, in the hidden layer, neurons with tanh transfer function and neurons with (-tanh) transfer function (if your hardware allows you to implement (-tanh)), in equal numbers, and train using fmincon. This is equivalent to having hidden neurons with positive weights only and hidden neurons with negative weights only. This will certainly result in increasing the number of parameters with respect to a "normal" neural net, hence in increasing the risk of overfitting; the price to pay will be the addition of a regularization term to the cost function; there is no free lunch, as usual... My suggestion is a hack, because I have no proof (but maybe it exists somewhere) that the fundamental property of neural nets (the ability to approximate any differentiable function with arbitrary accuracy) is preserved for such a structure.
In either case, do not forget to normalize the inputs (subtract the mean and divide by the stadard deviation, as usual).

Currently, I have a difficulties in scheduling tasks which duration is dependent on previous tasks . For example, I have the following two sets of tasks to complete on two different machines M1 and M2:
S1: T1 -> T2 -> T3
S2: T4 -> T5
Each task has duration of 2s. However, If I perform T5 immediately after T1 on the same machine, the duration of T5 can be shorten into 1s. Furthermore, If I perform T3 after T5, the duration of T3 can be shorten into 1s as well. 
Therefore, the schedule below has a time span of 4, not 6.
M1: T1 -> T5 -> T3
M2: T4 -> T2  
My question is: how do I model this type of "duration dependency" in my CSP model? Or which keywords I should use to search for related information?

My two cents:
1) I guess that the change over time is the influencing factor and since it is 2 seconds max in your case, it gives an impression that it is the task time.
2) At a bigger magnitude your case seems similar to sequence scheduling in paint shops. Overall time is optimized in a specific sequence of colours -  a sequence dependent set up time optimization problem.
3) The following papers may give you some lead:
a) A sequential ordering problem in automotive paint shops - this is available in researchgate and you have to request for full text from the authors.
b) Scheduling algorithms by David Karger (MIT), Cliff Stein, Dartmouth college, Joel Wein , Polytechnic University. You can get the full text in google search itself.

I have problems with Arduino AD8232 sensor. I use classic Arduino 1.8.2 for Arduino and Processing for visual processing of the data. According to the graph Arduino sends data in at least 100-300Hz range (graph between two R peaks (cca1 sec) is pretty precise), but when I export raw data I get a value for every approx. 17 miliseconds (around 60 Hz). I don't see why I can't get more precise raw data since more precise raw data is clearly used for the graph estimation. Are there any hardware or software obstacles I am not aware of?

your suggestions are really helpful. For now I have successfully increased the data acquisition precision by bypassing analysis and using serial port terminal apps such as puTTy and CoolTerm to capture data and analyze it later.

I have developed a new technique which solves linear integro-differential equations of fractional type. This includes Fredholm and Volterra equations.
I am looking for an application which can be modeled into such equation so I can apply my method. It can be any kind of application.

Ahmed, your statement is correct in some approximation. But a lot depends on application and complexity can be higher than ODE or even PDE. In mechanics of finite number (N) of particles, the state variables are coordinates and velocities of each (6N dimensions). The dynamics is governed by Newton's laws and one can write the dynamical system.
Consider another application in economics. Let us have 2 states - employed and unemployed, and probability matrix of transition across those states. This dynamics becomes stochastic and we cannot tell for sure whether at time T there will be exactly N employed and M unemployed. But if the number of people goes to infinity (in reality we never can do that), we can use the law of large numbers to derive almost deterministic dynamics.
So far we were talking about autonomous systems, where dynamics is the function of current state. But there might be systems under external force, with delay, etc.

Assuming a uniform distribution of addresses, evenly distributing references across cache banks requires dividing the address by the level of associativity.  This is much easier if that is a power of two.  Also, the cache banks usually fit into a more rectangular area when you have power of 2 associativity.

I think what Knuth means is that you should not start optimizing because of a "gut feeling" that some algorithms in the program may run faster. You should first finish the program and then measure the performance. If the performance is sufficient, stop; else identify the problematic parts and optimize only as much as necessary.
Faster code is less readable, and a non-critical perceived problem probably solves itself in one or two processor generations (or your optimization becomes obsolete), so keeping it simple is a very good advice. As Peter implies, the actual most critical parts are often in the most unusual and unexpected places.
So the message is to base the optimization decision on facts (measurements) and not on guessing (programmer intuition).

Well, the code isn't that important, since it depends on compiler and so on-it's the ``machine-independent'' properties that matter. Given some (pseudo-)spectral method it's a machine independent statement to say that the error behaves in a certain way as a function of the number of terms in the expansion in a given basis. The statement that a well-defined measure of the error attains 10^(-16) is something that can be checked independently of any one implementation, for instance.

I've used a structural distance-based measure to compute similarity between each pair of nodes in an undirect graph. Hence, I calculated a distance matrix "D" such that the distance value "Dij" is simply the shortest-path between node i and node j. However, obtained distance values are absolutes (i.e. 5, 19, 3...etc) and I'd like to normalize them, such that : 0<= Dij <=1.

I was working on a simulation of Heat transfer block process that contain (liquid, steam and superheated steam). These are classic Navier Stokes equations and heat transfer or energy equation. I do not believe these are of 3rd order, however they are highly nonlinear and extremely difficult to solve with your own codes. It is recommended to use already available commercial software like ANSYS, COMSOL, or ABAQUS to solve such type of problems as they have the required solvers for such problems. A large number of example problems are also available with these software. They are mostly finite element or finite volume based software.
P.S. MATLAB have a very elementary PDE toolbox for solving PDEs. These equations can not be solved with that.

Hi Abdallah,
If you are not sure that an heuristic method achieves the Pareto optimal set, you can apply it on a toy example, where the solutions can be derived analytically. The reference below provides such examples. If you want to know to have an idea the best configuration of your algorithm to approximate the Pareto front of your problem in the case where it cannot be derived analytically (most of the time when you deal of dataset of normal size), then you can try to build a problem with analytic solutions that looks similar.

I don't think that you can expect getting the same runtime constantly. As long as the standard deviation is not too big, I think you can claim that your data is credible!
