Introduction
I am a PhD researcher in Migration Studies at the University of Palermo, focusing on gender dynamics in family reunification among Bangladeshi migrants in Europe. My research uses mixed methods to explore migration patterns and integration processes. I have also studied irregular and stepwise migration, and refugee flows, particularly among Rohingya, ethnic minorities in Bangladesh, and Russian-Ukrainian refugees. I volunteer with ISTAT, analyzing refugee data in Italy.

Poland made international news with the unbelievable outpouring of support to Ukrainian refugees from both the government and the local population after the Russian invasion in 2022. As scholars, we travelled to Poland to understand more of this dynamic. Our research with activists and humanitarian workers, however, revealed a more complicated dyna...
This literature review is dedicated to the subject of agent-based modelling for the system of international migration, and of the modelling of policies that are known to aid in its management. The reason for the selection of agent-based modelling as a framework for studying international migration is that the system of international migration prese...
This is a book review for the recent publication by Dr. Gabriel Echeverría, Towards a Systemic Theory of Irregular Migration: Explaining Ecuadorian Irregular Migration in Amsterdam and Madrid, published in 2020 by Springer (e-ISBN 978-3-030-40903-6). The book covers the subject of irregular international migration, of the legal definitions that rel...
A measurable feature of a globalising Asia is the flow of migrants who move between Asian countries in search of employment. The theory on decentralised income redistribution and immigration suggests that it is possible to promote wealth inequality in a country by means of adopting policies, which favour the immigration of workers who have a negati...
Simulations of social processes are a special category of interactions between humans and computers, characterized by the modeling through the latter of the behavior of the former. This paper proposes a framework for studying the development of simulation capabilities by society, as part of an ongoing process of adaptation by complex social systems...
In this article, we study the relationship between diseases, human mobility, and the perception of authoritarian tendencies of governments. The thesis that we support is that a social system that is experiencing or has recently experienced infectious diseases decreases the mobility of the humans that belong to it. This, in turn, contributes to the...
The subject of the study is the social network theory for the management of international migration. The theory suggests that migration from the society of origin to the hosting society can occur if links exist between these two societies, and that the flow of migrants follows the established links. The theoretical prediction which one can make is...
The theory suggests the existence of a relationship between the displacement of the population and the level of political instability [1], where the latter is intended as the propensity for the population to engage in civil conflicts [2]. Since it is believed that climate change effects will cause the displacement of significant portions of the pop...
Digital technology for e-governance allows the automation of administrative tasks that previously required manual clerical work. One of these tasks is the issuing of visas for entry into a country, to citizens of a foreign country with a visa regimen. The positive experience by the Russian government with regards to electronic visas for short stays...
This paper discusses the issue of integration abroad and remittances to home by the Bangladeshi emigrant workers in Europe, by using the case of the Bangladeshi community residing in Italy as empirical study. The research was conducted by means of qualitative and quantitative surveys related to the perceived quality of life and integration by Bangl...
This is a research proposal related to programs for higher education in Bangladesh, among the Rohingya refugees in particular. The idea is to maximise the probability that they can successfully enroll in tertiary education institutions in Myanmar upon their eventual return.
In this paper we analyse the tension between promoting human rights for the Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar and the securing the hosting country against the risk of civil war. Under the theoretical framework of ethno-political conflict, and the methodology of the four-factors model, we study how the risk assessment for a civil conflict in Banglade...
In this paper we study the ethnic violence against the Rohingyas in Myanmar, under the theoretical framework of political economics of genocide. By performing theoretical inference on the theory of democratic transition, the theory of industrialisation of a developing nation, and the rational choice theory of genocide, we propose that the genocide...
In the paper we discuss the problem of diffusion of innovation and change in the health behaviour of a population, in relation to the adoption and usage of water filtration systems by the Rohingya population in Cox’s Bazar. That population is considered today to be at significant risk for pandemics, as a consequence of the poor level of sanitation...
This paper is dedicated to the study of the social network theory for the management of international migration. The theory suggests that migration from the society of origin to the hosting society can occur if links exist between these two societies, and that the flow of migrants takes place along the lines of established connections. The theoreti...
