Labor Day Endorsement of Senator Angela Giron

Unions Say Vote No on Recall: Rivera Rubber Stamp for
Koch Brothers Anti-Union Agenda

On a day dedicated to working men and women, unions asked their 12,567 union household voters in Pueblo County’s Senate District 3 to unify behind Senator Angela Giron and VOTE NO on the irresponsible September 10th recall election.

“This is a clear choice between someone who stands up for working families and someone who supports stripping Pueblo union members of their collective bargaining rights. Angela Giron has been a champion for working families in Pueblo passing a tough new law to make sure our tax dollars support domestic manufacturing, like the steel made right here in Pueblo”, said Doug Fennell of the United Steelworkers.

Join the Theatre Musicians Association

Jul 29

Dear fellow Theatre Musician:

We all share a passion and dedication to our profession: performing the highest quality musical theatre for audiences in our home cities and across the country. The Theatre Musicians Association (TMA) is dedicated to ensuring live music remains a vital, thriving, and valued part of theatrical musicals now and in the years to come. Our purpose is to serve the needs of musicians who make this possible—whether they are playing on tour or performing in their home city.

What is TMA? The Theatre Musicians Association (TMA) is devoted solely to issues and concerns of theatre musicians. Formed in 1993 to ensure representation within the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), TMA was granted AFM Player Conference status in 1997. As a member of TMA your voice is heard and represented at the negotiating table—both nationally and locally.

Make Music Denver Draws 10's of Listeners

Jun 22

By Pete Vriesenga
June 21, 2013

Above: Mainstage at 5pm during a scheduled performance without an audience

Finding a good parking spot was never as easy as it was today, and conveniently at the corner of 15th and Tremont near the Make Music Denver mainstage.

I don’t know of an occasion when I’ve seen fewer people in attendance at a music festival. The band was nearing the end of their performance and nobody was there. The stage was in an ideal location in front of the Denver Pavillions Mall where large crowds typically gather without a music festival. ‘Something’ was keeping the audience away.

Six blocks down the Mall at the Skyline Market Stage (Skyline Park) turnout was no better. The park was lined with enough food vendors to feed an army, but I didn’t observe a single sale. Maybe next year will be better if the Downtown Denver Partnership learns to respect musicians. This will happen only with a change of management.

Tami Door, CEO of the Downtown Partnership, expressed her thoughts about Make Music Denver in a 6/20 Westword Interview. I responded with my comments. Please take a moment to express yours.

DMA Boycott of Make Music Denver

Jun 7

Just Say NO

The DMA Board of Directors is officially boycotting Make Music Denver. This is a formal request of DMA members who are asked not to perform for MMD until this matter is resolved. The DMA also encourages all non-union musicians to honor this boycott, especially since there is no loss in income and no valid contracts to break. We should instead dedicate our time to the true meaning of World Music Day, which is anything but exploitation of musicians.

Please contact Pete Vriesenga at pvriesenga@aol.com if you have any questions.
