Englewood Arts Presents: Bach and Beethoven Date & Time: Saturday, November 23, 2013 Performers: Ivy Street Ensemble Venue: Hampden Hall (located on the 2nd level of the Englewood Civic Center)* Englewood Arts Presents continues its Chamber Music of the Masters series on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00pm with a return engagement by the popular Ivy Street Ensemble. Ivy Street Ensemble was formed in 2001 and is comprised of three musicians from the Colorado Symphony ~ Cathy Peterson (flute), Erik Peterson (violin), and Phillip Stevens (viola). Since its inception, the ensemble has presented a diverse array of chamber music works from the baroque era to the 21st century. They perform throughout Colorado and also in Oregon as part of the Chintimini Chamber Music Festival. In 2008 they were finalists in the National Flute Association Chamber Music Competition. Winners of a grant from Chamber Music America, Ivy Street Ensemble premiered a commissioned work by Kenji Bunch in June 2013 (which will also be performed on the Englewood Arts Presents concert). Classical music lovers in Denver have frequently heard the group on Colorado Public Radio broadcasts. Ivy Street Ensemble regularly performs at elementary schools in the Denver-metro area. Their young audiences are generally comprised of children ranging in age from 5–11 years old. The ensemble’s education concerts are geared toward introducing a variety of instruments, while at the same time giving a tangible lesson on theme and variation that children of all ages can comprehend. The program on November 23 will include the following works: Beethoven: Serenade for flute, violin and viola CPE Bach: Sonata in A minor for solo flute Mozart: Duo for Violin and Viola in B-flat major, K.424 Kenji Bunch: Serenade As has become customary and FUN at these Englewood Arts Presents concerts, the musicians will provide comments, insights, and perspectives on the works they will be performing.
