The 2013-2014 Walden Chamber Music Society season promises to be once again rich, varied, with outstanding professional musicians.
The AfterThanksgiving concert, scheduled on December 1, 2013, welcomes violinist Robert Davidovici, concerto soloist, whose career involves the Juilliard String Quartet and performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Isaac Stern, and many other internationally known musicians. Mr. Davidovici is currently Artist-in-Residence and Professor of Violin at Florida International University.
Also performing are Clayton Vaughn, cello, Rachel Hargroder, percussion, Matt Diekman, viola, Harvey Boatright, flute and Jo Boatright, piano. The program includes music by Beethoven, Dvořák, and fun pieces by Lutoslawski, Piazzolla and Saariaho.

THE WALDEN AFTERTHANKSGIVING CONCERT
From London to Salida
The Walden Chamber Music Society in its ninth year in Chaffee County, following a 35-year long successful career in Dallas, Texas, is proud to announce its first 2013-2014 concert on Sunday, December 1, at 3:00pm at the SteamPlant Theater, 220 W. Sackett Ave., Salida with an informance at 2:00pm, during which pianist Jo Boatright, explains and gives a short musical demonstration of the music to be performed.
The Walden AfterThanskgiving concert is now a tradition. It opens the season with a bang as it reunites world renowned violinist Robert Davidovici with violist Matt Diekam, cellist Clayton Vaughn, flutist Harvey Boatright, percussionist Rachel Hargroder, and concert pianist Jo Boatright. They will perform classical music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonin Dvořák, and some surprises with Partita for violin and piano by Witold Lutoslawski and Histoire du tango for flute and marimba by Argentinian Astor Piazolla who revolutionized the tango with his famous nuevo tango.
Robert Davidovici, violin, is acclaimed on five continuents as a virtuoso who combines spectacular technique, wide-ranging repertoire and magnificent artistry with an exciting, compelling stage presence. He is the recipient of several distinguished First Prize honors, among them the Carnegie Hall International American Music Violin Competition.
Born in Roumania, Robert Davidovici began his studies with a student of David Oistrakh, preeminent Russian violinist of the twentieth century. He went on to study at the Juilliard School, where upon graduating he became a teaching assistant to the Juilliard String Quartet. He has collaborated in concert with Yo-Yo Ma, Isaac Stern, Cho Liang-Li and many others. Carnegie Hall has featured Mr. Davidovici as part of their American Music Masters series. He is Artist-in Residence and professor of violin at Florida International University. He has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra for Cala Records. His CD Melodie-the-Art of Robert Davidovici was selected as one of the top 30 CDs releases in Japan. Recently he recorded transcriptions of Chopin-Nocturnes, and in January 2013 he recorded with the prestigious London-based Royal Philarmonic Orchestra the Lutoslawski Partita to be performed with pianist Jo Boatright on December 1. Prior to coming to Salida, Mr. Davidovici played the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Charles Dutoit in October 2013. This is Mr. Davidovici’s second appearance with the Walden in Chaffee County.
2013-2014 subscriptions (four tickets) are on sale for $55 for any of the four 2013-2014 Walden concerts. Single tickets are $15/adult and are available on line at www.steamplant.com, at the Salida and Buena Vista Chambers of Commerce, at the Steamplant Theater boxoffice or at the door prior to the concert. The second concert, scheduled on February 16, 2014 reunites three musicians from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Maria Schleuning, violin, Barbara Sudweeks, Associate Principal Viola, Paul Garner, Associate Principal Clarinet, and pianist Jo Boatright . The program includes music by Pigovat, Leoš Janáček, Carl Reinecke, Béla Bartók.
The third concert, scheduled on March 16, 2014 is the Colorado concert with musicians from the Denver/Boulder area: Lina Bahn, violin, Clayton Vaughn, cello, Matt Diekman, viola, as well as Harvey Boatright, flute, and Jo Boatright, piano. The program includes music by Mozart, Bethoven, Stravinski and Dohnányi.
The last 2013-2014 concert, scheduled on June 1, 2014 welcomes again bass baritone Donnie Ray Albert, Chris Adkins, Dallas Symphony Orchestra Principal Cello and Jo Boatright, piano. Mr. Albert will sing songs by Handel, Schubert, Brahms, and negro spirituals. Mr. Albert has performed with major opera companies among which are La Scala, Covent Garden, The Metropolitan Opera, Chicago, Los Angeles, and who won the 1977 Grammy Award for his performance in “Porgy and Bess”.
All concerts take place on Sunday at 3:00pm at the SteamPlant Theater in Salida with an informance conducted by pianist Jo Boatright at 2:00pm.
