Community Trust and Safety Specialist

Meetup’s Trust & Safety Team works hard to ensure that everyone understands our guidelines and that the platform is safe and enjoyable for our millions of organizers and members building community. With over 13,000 Meetups happening daily, the team is growing and seeks to continue our mission of advocating for member safety and maintaining trust in Meetups globally.


We’re looking for someone who is proactive, disciplined, collaborative and who holds consistency and responsiveness as top priorities. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic leader. You understand the member’s point of view and are passionate about using your combined technical, analytical and customer service acumen to protect our members and improve their Meetups.

 

As a Community Trust & Safety Specialist, your work might include:

  • Identifying, investigating and resolving trust and safety issues across our community, including payment disputes, inappropriate content, abuse and other violations.
  • Providing clear, patient and helpful responses to time sensitive safety and legal requests from members and organizers.
  • Collaborating with the Legal, Product, Communications and Community Teams to make for a safer member experience.
  • Researching, evaluating and proposing improvements to Meetup’s policies.
  • Developing and implementing internal investigatory tools, policy enforcement methods, and scalable processes.
  • Designing resource materials and communications to drive awareness and understanding of our policies.

 This job might be for you if you:

  • Are empathetic and understand that members are real people and should be treated with kindness and compassion. 
  • Like to get your hands dirty and do independent research in order to get to the bottom of complex challenges.
  • Have had experience delivering tough news while remaining respectful and poised. 
  • Are a rule stickler.

An ideal candidate has:

  • 1 year of experience in a support, service or community advocate role.
  • Internet research experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues into simple, clear language.
  • An interest in learning about Trust & Safety and beginning a career with an internet company.  

Bonus points if you have knowledge of the technology sector and key policy issues affecting online and offline communities like safety, intellectual property, harassment, phishing and fraud. Extra credit if you have experience in policy development, online enforcement, risk management, transactional fraud, compliance, legal document intake or other legal/paralegal experience a plus.
