Meetup has been around the block—we were born back when 3-D pixelated babies danced, bananas shouted "peanut butter jelly time" and phones only had one app: Phone. It turns out that people have a deep, innate human desire to meet up, so we’ve grown like crazy—but the desktop-centric, feature-cluttered product we started building over a decade ago just can’t sustain that kind of growth. We’re ready to reshape Meetup for the mobile, global future, and design experiences that live up to the amazing feeling of going to a great Meetup. Our team is small but growing, so we’re looking for people with a pioneering spirit who want to help cultivate a design culture. That’s where you come in.
Meetup has been ahead of the curve on user research for a long time, but we’re looking to fortify the design side of the equation with an experienced UX/Interaction designer. In this position you’ll work closely with the design team, as well as product managers and engineers, to scope and prioritize user stories, set goals, and measure success. You’ll craft tests and prototypes for our daily in-house usability lab and work with our research teams and turn that insight into practical user flows, wireframes and visual designs ready for execution. Most importantly, you’ll be a fierce user advocate and serve as a thought leader for UX at Meetup.
How to spot if you’re a match:
You have at least 5 years experience leading rich, complex user experience projects on cross-functional teams
You have a background in visual design, project management, or engineering and a strong literacy for them all.
You have a strong portfolio showcasing core design and UX skills, insight into your process, as well as sketches, visual design work, and other relevant work outside of the core competencies of UX (such as coding, etc).
You have worked on native mobile apps and have strong opinions about bridging experiences across different contexts.
Involvement in the craft beyond your dayjob. You teach, do side projects, write a blog, or participate in Meetups, conferences, hackathons, etc.
Fierce user advocacy and passion for designing experiences that support, delight and engage members, with a sense of pride and ownership over the quality of the product
Ability to clearly express and simplify the complex in writing and conversation as well as in pictures
