Event Details

Cellists of all ages and ability levels are invited to join us as we summit Mt. Sherman, one of the easier 14ers in the Rocky Mountains, via the Southwest Ridge route (http://www.14ers.com/routemain.php?route=sher1&peak;=mt.+sherman). Friends and family are also invited along for the 14,000ft concert (and to help carry supplies—they will be handsomely rewarded with a cello concert at the top!), and non-BCP members are welcome to play with us as well.

Organizer: Gemma Varney
Conductor/Moderator: Psyche Cassandra Dunkhase
Porter: Abram Herman

If you want to play and are unsure about whether you can carry your cello up the hike, we will try to have enough extra helpers that you can trade off carrying the heavy stuff, so don’t let it dissuade you! At the same time, we are hiking a 14er—you must be in good enough shape to hike about 2.75 miles each way (5.25mi total), with 2,100 feet of elevation gain, and hang out above 14,000 feet for a couple of hours. There is the possibility of altitude sickness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude_sickness), so we will have a spare car for anybody who isn’t able to make the whole hike (meaning you won’t have to wait for the rest of us if you don’t make the summit).

BCPers, please forward this to your other cello friends, as well as any friends and family who may be interested in helping with the hike!

Non-BCP cellists please send me an email if you are interested in participating: info[a]bouldercelloproject.com.

We are in need of lightweight folding chairs (without arms) for playing cello, please let us know if you have some to offer by messaging Gemma or Abram.

We are also in need of people with 4WD/AWD vehicles to drive, as well as general, non-cellist volunteers to help carry food/water/clothing/chairs/stands, and maybe even to take a cello occasionally if someone needs a rest. If you can volunteer in any of these capacities, please join the event and either post on the wall or message an organizer to let us know if/how you're connected to the Boulder Cello Project, and how you'd like to help—thank you!
