We’re building a world where it’s easy to find and build real communities. Our challenge is to create a design experience that leads people to meet up in the world, share their passions and talk about what’s important to them. Or, as we like to put it, we make the best thing in the world.
Meetup may have all the energy and freshness of a startup, but we’ve got a bit of history and a lot of street cred in the NY tech scene. We were born back when 3-D pixelated babies danced, bananas shouted "peanut butter jelly time" and phones only had one app: Phone. Over the past decade, a small engineering-focused team added feature after feature trying to spark Meetups across the globe, but that experience has always paled in comparison with the amazing feeling people have when they attend a great Meetup. Now we’re ready to make Meetup the complete experience it needs to be. That’s where you come in.
Our small yet mighty team is in the process of building a truly user-centric design culture at Meetup and we’re ready to grow. Our experience designers each have a high-level of adaptability and initiative, bringing a range of strengths, talents and experience to the mix. We collaborate to make sure every project gets the full treatment without boxing ourselves into specialization roles or unneeded hierarchy.
The day-to-day:
We have a website, mobile site, and iOS and Android apps–at any given time you'll probably be working on one - or more likely - all of them.
Work with product managers and engineers to scope and prioritize user stories, set goals, and measure success.
Who you are:
Strong portfolio showcasing core design and UX skills (a bonus if you can wireframe or prototype in HTML/CSS)
Involvement in the craft beyond your day job. You teach, do side projects, write a blog, or participate in Meetups, conferences, hackathons, etc.
Fierce user advocacy and passion for designing experiences that support, delight and engage members, with a sense of pride and ownership over the quality of the product
Strong attention to detail and an excellent eye for typography, color, layout, information architecture and other related design thingamabobs. Bonus points if you don't call them "thingamabobs".
Ability to clearly express and simplify the complex in writing and conversation as well as in pictures.
Appetite for destruction and/or cat gifs
Every member of the Meetup Team is expected to: be an Innovator; be a Collaborator; be a Champion for their ideas; be an Expert; have High Standards; be dedicated to the power of self-organized groups and our mission of A Meetup Everywhere About Most Everything ("MEME"); and most importantly, Get Stuff Done That Makes a Difference!
If this sounds like you, please send your Meetup story along with your resume and portfolio.
