The instrument that will always and forever have my heart is the cello. I switched from violin to cello in high school and am so glad I made the switch (no offense to violinists). I fell in love with the cello immediately- the wide range of pitches and the mimicking of the human voice. But I also played in an African drumming group throughout college, which supported my rhythm in cello as well. Singing has been a hobby of mine as well :)
Since I have not played my cello seriously for over a year, I have lost some skills. But I would say that my abilities are mostly advanced. I wouldn't choose to play a solo part unless given enough time to feel completely comfortable with it. My last formal lesson was in May 2013, right before I graduated from college. The last piece I worked on was the Bach's Prelude for Cello Suite 1, which I played for my best friends wedding along with The Swan and Ave Maria.
I played first chair in high school (back in the day when I practiced religously....) and played in a chamber orchestra in college. I always wanted to join a small group of cellists for a jam session or something less formal. However, I do really enjoy playing chamber music!
I would like to see our group volunteer at a school for children with disabilities or something similar. Last year, I taught children with autism and on my last day I brought my cello in and played for them but also let them play on my instrument. Their eyes lit up and the cello helped them reach a whole new mindset. Very powerful to say the least..
At least 9 out of 12 times in the next year. I will be living in Costa Rica January-March 2015- YAY!
Howdy! My name is Hanna. I just moved here from Chicago after graduating from college in the "Windy City"- so thankful to be in such a beautiful, open space now! :) Random fun fact is that my first ever rock climb was this past week on flatiron 2.
