Boulder Cello Project Pages

First, a quick "thank you" to the wonderful Ann Moceyunas of the Atlanta Cello Project for sharing her love of cello and organizing expertise - so I don't have to reinvent the wheel! The info will of course differ and change as our group grows and develops, but for now, we love how she's developed her community of cellists so we're using her group as our model! :)

Fulfilling cello dreams by creating a community of players to play, learn, share and grow.

MISSION
The Boulder Cello Project is a cello group committed to supporting other Colorado cellists by providing a non-competitive friendly place to practice, learn and share knowledge of music and the art of cello playing, and by also providing workshops taught by expert instructors for all levels and abilities.

The project collaborates with local and national composers and arrangers to create music that is accessible to both beginners and advanced players, and also strives to create pieces to showcase the cello's versatility by playing music not generally associated with cello (such as jazz, rock, alternative, etc.) to inspire their members and audience to learn more about playing the cello or musical instrument.

In addition, the Boulder Cello Project strives to inform and entertain their members and audiences by providing unique musical experiences by collaborating with other artists and musicians in their area, and will also be giving back to their community by performing for retirement communities.

YOUR COMMITMENT

You can join the Boulder Cello Group by signing up as a Meetup Member on this Website. You will be asked to answer some questions about your current playing ability, for planning purposes (for example, to plan on music or group assignments at a play-in). There are no auditions. You are welcome to attend play-ins and workshops if you just want to see and hear what we are all about, before you decide to bring your cello (but you will probably wish that you had!).

We expect that those who play in the Beginner play-ins:

  • Can tune your own instrument
  • Can read music in the bass clef
  • Can easily play 1st position
  • Are willing to let go of your "hang-ups" about playing in public and need to be willing to learn how to share a music stand. :)

We hope you come every month, but welcome you even if you can only come sporadically. If you want to play in a concert or other performance, you may be asked to rehearse with your ensemble separately. But your real commitment is to being part of a supportive music community that is open to suggestion and willing to give gentle encouragement. . . and to maintain a sense of humor!
