Experience, Education and Professionalism Informs My Approach to Portrait Photography
I have more than 18 years of professional portrait photography experience, earned my Master of Fine Arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design and have photographed hundreds of events. My education and experience have taught me how to capture meaningful moments in well-composed and beautifully lit photographs, as well as how to help people feel more relaxed in front of the camera. I’m skilled at directing people and can capture the energy and spirit of your day in both classic, formal photographs and in the un-posed, candid moments that you’ll want to remember. Years of experience have taught me how to be present, helpful and direct when needed, yet blend into the mix and capture candid moments when the celebration is in full swing.
I’ll Get To Know You First
Great portrait photography is not about the photographer. It's about you. Before your event or portrait shoot, we’ll meet and talk so I can begin to understand who you are, what your needs are and what kinds of pictures you’re looking for. Getting to know you, your family or fiancé makes it possible to really capture the spirit and essence of your family, friends and event. Meeting also allows us to communicate thoroughly about your unique needs and wants so no image or moment is overlooked or missed.
Working With Me Is Easy, Enjoyable and Stress-Free
I am present, quick, professional and sensitive to your needs. It’s a privilege to capture the special moments and overall energy of your important day. I work hard to balance being ever-present and available with keeping a low profile and blending into the mix of your guests. I will capture the moments we discussed as important, as well as rely on my intuition and experience to capture those candid, special moments that you may not even know that you want yet. I have a relaxed, playful attitude and truly love people, celebrations and capturing those moments in our lives that have profound meaning. I’m a confident director and can improvise quickly when the schedule doesn’t go as planned. I will provide you and your family with support and positive energy throughout the day. Collaboration between us allows for beautiful moments to be photographed with ease. It is my great joy to be with you!
Photographic images are a lasting testament to the love, joy, laughter and commitment you share "from this day forward." The images I capture will provide you with countless years of happiness and treasured memories. It is a privilege and honor to participate in your intimate event – be it a maternity session, engagement or wedding, your new baby, a family reunion or a corporate headshot. I welcome the opportunity to capture your important moments with beauty, grace and ease.
But, you still may have questions or concerns…
I want beautiful portrait photos, but I am concerned about costs.
Portrait photography can be expensive. A good photographer will put a lot of time into pre- and post- production – as well as during the actual shoot – to ensure an easy and enjoyable experience as well as beautiful photographs. My fees are competitively priced and past clients consistently say that they appreciate and understand the value after working with me and seeing their final photographs. What sets me apart is the time I take to get to know you and understand the essence of your family or the spirit of your event, which comes through in the images. I invite you to call me for an initial call to discuss your specific needs and to talk about your budget for your event or for portraits.
I don’t like the fake looking and overly posed pictures that I’ve often seen in wedding albums.
Many of my past clients have voiced the same concern. Nobody wants an album full of photos of people looking stiff, uncomfortable and overly posed. Years of experience have taught me how to lighten the moods of your family, friends and guests and make what can be an uncomfortable and overly formal experience fun, easy and relaxed. I have the natural ability to put people at ease and the experience necessary to quickly and easily capture a combination of both posed and informal images.
It’s also important to note that we’ll meet beforehand so I can get a solid understanding of the images, people and specific moments you want captured to ensure that nothing is missed. It’s my job – not yours – to handle all aspects of the photography on your special day. Your needs and wants will all be addressed beforehand so you can fully enjoy yourself in the moment and then relive the highlights, excitement and meaningful connections that were created throughout your wedding or other special event.
We want perfect images from our wedding day or other special event, but I’ve noticed that many photographers take up a lot of space and distract from the celebration.
Again, this is a valid concern and a common problem, which I’ve learned to avoid. My years of experience and a dedicated yoga practice have taught me how to make myself appear very small and unobtrusive. Although I have the people and leadership skills needed to get people to pay attention when it’s time to get the formal pictures, I also have the ability to blend well as I move throughout your event and capture the smaller, but important moments of your day. I will also never disrupt a special moment in order to get a better shot.
