City Strings

Augustana Arts believes that the arts provide a foundation for learning by encouraging creativity and self expression. City Strings help students learn a music instrument and in doing this, they develop self confidence as well as an appreciation for music performance

City Strings'™ mission is to bring the blessings of quality music instruction to underprivileged students who might otherwise never have access to it. City Strings is a deeply impacting after school program which provides subsidized music instruction of violin, viola or cello in private and small group settings to students at select metro schools in low-income neighborhoods. City Strings not only fosters a love and appreciation for music but instills confidence and develops communication skills in participating students. The program challenges students to set and achieve their goals, thus encouraging self-motivation. Professional musicians serve as dedicated teaching-artists committed to their students' holistic well-being. School administrators and classroom teachers attest that students in City Strings experience greater overall academic success. City Strings has been endorsed by funding from several youth service and educational foundations.
