" Fifty years ago, about a dozen women and I met for the first time to discuss the idea of putting together an auxiliary group to support the growth and development of the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, which at that time was a relatively new ensemble, then entering its fifteenth year.
That meeting resulted in the formation of the Fort Collins Women’s Symphony Guild, a group that would dedicate itself to the support, promotion and development of the Fort Collins Symphony through social, fundraising and educational projects.
In short order, officers were elected and committees were formed. Soon after, plans were in place for the Guild’s first fundraising event which was held during the 1963-64 Symphony season.
Some of the key players, instrumental in getting the Guild off the ground as well as planning and executing early events, were Nancy Stegner, Carolyn Klie, Mildred Unfug, June Haus, Carol Preller, Jamia Riehl, Shirley Simpson, Polly Sersen, Kay Quong, Patricia Ray, Florence Dunn, Georgine Bush, Nancy Clegern, Gladys Antrim, and Nell Wainwright.
That first fundraising event, a formal dinner/dance was the first of many to follow, all with the overriding goal of supporting the Symphony in its ongoing mission to entertain, educate, and continue to produce high quality orchestral music for the Northern Colorado community. "
