Stratus Chamber Orchestra (formerly Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra) is an innovative ensemble that collaborates with other arts organizations in the Denver Metro Area.  We are part of Augustana Arts and based out of Augustana Lutheran Church.  Past and current season performances include silent film, theatre, storytelling, performance art, ballet/dance, audio/visual art, and commissions of new works by local and national composers. We also perform lesser known works along with standard chamber orchestra repertoire in immersive settings.

2016-2017 Season: SNEAK PEEK

 

Starting in Fall of 2016, Stratus Chamber Orchestra embarks on a season-long project. After the season opening collaboration with St. Martin’s Chamber Choir (Ralph Vaughan Williams: Dona nobis pacem), Stratus will present a truly unique series of immersive-style performances (our signature presentational style in which the orchestra and the audience share the same space). This series will explore a single narrative through four episodes/concerts – a story line that will be developed through music, acting and story-telling. To present this series, Stratus will borrow the highly successful television series concept, in which each episode/concert is self-contained while at the same time functions as a chapter in a story arc that lasts throughout the season. Each year, Stratus commissions at least one new work; this year the commission goes to a playwright to create this story.

Repertoire includes:

A new work by contemporary composer (McLean: Suite for Viola and Orchestra)
Masterworks by Johannes Brahms (Symphony #3) and Mozart (Piano Concerto #20)
A blues arrangement of a movement from the Brahms Symphony #3 for harmonica and orchestra
As well as a rich complement of selections for chamber orchestra.
