Augustana Arts Receives Highly Competitive
Mockingbird Foundation Grant
to Expand City Strings Program
March, 2015
The Mockingbird Foundation, an all-volunteer nonprofit founded
by fans of the rock band Phish, has awarded $4,000 for string instruments
to Augustana Arts, Inc. (Denver, CO) to expand its City Strings
program to reach more post-elementary students. The Mockingbird
Foundation funding will help increase the inventory of instruments
available and support the opening of a new City Strings community
outlet at the Vickers Boys and Girls Club at the Nancy P. Anschutz
Center in north Denver where City Strings is currently registering
participants and will be able to serve more middle school-aged youngsters
in addition to younger students.
Mockingbird Foundation Executive Director Ellis Godard emailed Augustana
Arts with the happy news. "In its most recent round of competitive
grants, the Mockingbird Foundation received 1,059 inquiries requesting
a total of $5,252,336, and ultimately funded only 12 grants totaling
$42,900 less than 2%, by either measure. Augustana Arts,
Inc.'s City Strings - Youth Music Education was one of those select
few successful applicants." He went on to say, "We continue
to be amazed by the vast need for music education funding, and impressed
by the dedication of people such as you who work diligently to help
fill those needs. We were particularly impressed with the request
submitted by Augustana Arts, Inc."
| We are
