This tour-de-force opens with a world premiere by “composer-adventurer” Stephen Lias, inspired by our own Rocky Mountain National Park and choreographed to nature photography from the park. Midkiff ’s mandolin concerto is a wonderfully adept depiction of the Appalachians. Ghosts of the Grasslands is augmented by unusual percussion, including bison bones and dried prairie grass. The grand conclusion is a performance of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, accompanied by aerial dance depicting humanity’s connection to our natural world.
