Violinist Katherine Lehman has an extensive and versatile career as a performer and teacher. An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, she maintains an active performance schedule throughout the U.S.

Since 2009 she has been Director of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, an internationally renowned summer program for advanced music students. Under her guidance it has emerged as one of the leading voices in music education in the U.S. Lehman has served as professor of violin at the University of the South (Sewanee) since 1995. She has been a core member of the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, performing and recording with such artists as Edgar Meyer, Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck, trey Anastasio, Turtle Island String Quartet, and countless others. Recent projects include collaborations with the St. Lawrence String Quartet and American fiddling legend Mark O'Connor. She chairs the Performing Arts Series at Sewanee, presenting a full concert series of international artists each season. Ms. Lehman attended Eastman School of Music, the University of Kansas, and Northwestern University, where she earned the prestigious Performer's Certificate. Her teachers have included Zvi Zeitlin, Gerardo Ribeiro, and Shmuel Ashkenasi, and she has performed in master classes by Dorothy Delay, the Beaux Arts Trio, the Guarneri Quartet and many others. Ms. Lehman currently plays on an 1874 violin by J. B. Vuillaume.
Evelyn Loehrlein, Director of Operations and Admissions, has enjoyed a diverse career as a performer and arts administrator. From 1990 to 2012, she held leadership positions on the staff of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. As the founding director of the Symphony School of the HSO, she initiated partnerships to provide innovative string education programs in community organizations and elementary schools. As a trustee of the Louisville Youth Orchestra, she helped produced full house audiences for the LYO’s education concert for middle school students in 2013 and 2014.

Principal flutist of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, she has made numerous solo appearances, including the world premiere of a flute concerto written for her by Christopher Weiss for the thirtieth anniversary of her first HSO performance. She performed with Orchestra Nashville on tour with Amy Grant and Vince Gill, and at the Bonnaroo Festival with Trey Anastasio of Phish. In 2011, she appeared as soloist in David Maslanka’s “O Earth, O Stars” with the Huntsville Chamber Winds. She has performed in several venues of Buffalo, New York.

Ms. Loehrlein resides near Louisville, Kentucky, with her husband, SSMF faculty member Sidney King. They travel extensively and enjoy fly-fishing. Mother of three grown sons, she is an active hospice patient care volunteer with Hosparus of Louisville.
Performance Library of the SSMF since 2010, Dr. Manly Romero is the Performance Librarian, Director of Music Licensing, and Administrative Director of the Contemporary Performance Program at Manhattan School of Music. He has worked for the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Musica Sacra, and the Berkshire Choral Festival. He served as Administrative Director for the composers collective Random Access Music and the Queens New Music Festival from 2011-2013.

Dr. Romero has received two Paul Revere Awards from the Music Publishers’ Association of America for music typesetting, and was Editor for Edward B. Marks Music Company.

Dr. Romero’s compositions have been premiered at Carnegie Hall and Davies Symphony Hall by the San Francisco Symphony, American Composers Orchestra, and New York City Opera. He is recipient of the San Francisco Conservatory’s inaugural Hoeffer Commission and Residency, the final Whitaker Commission recipient, and received his DMA from the University of Michigan after studies as a Merit Fellow primarily with William Bolcom and Michael Daugherty.
