Among the most popular symphonic works of all time, Dvořák’s 9th symphony is richly layered with the musical traditions of America. Dvořák was especially adept at turning folk melodies into grand classical themes, and his stirring treatments of African-American spirituals and Native American motifs were instantly recognized as a national treasure.
