Viola A String is defective
In the past 3 months I have replaced four A strings on my viola. Of these, only one was eligible for replacement because I had purchased it within 30 days. These strings are breaking at the ball end (the fine tuner is not the problem, I have had it inspected), and the most recent break occurred during a concert. I love the sound of Dominants on my viola, but it's like playing a time bomb waiting for the A to break. I've switched to Jarger A (medium) which settled in to pitch quickly and is very responsive. From the reviews, it appears that I am not the only one who has had this problem and that the A strings are defective. Unfortunately, the warranty can't be applied to 3 of the strings because I've had them longer than 30 days.

Broken A strings...twice
In the last couple of years, I have purchased two sets of these strings, and the A strings on both sets broke....while in the case....and no, they were not strung too tight, were not exposed to big temp. changes, etc. I'm done with this brand. I even wrote a letter to Shar and received no response. I love the sound of the lower strings, but I can't keep having strings break for no reason.

Beautiful Sounding Strings
My son's favorite strings. We order them one day, they make it across the States 2 days later. Always keep a spare, in case one breaks at rehearsal, or especially during performance.

Great Intermediate Strings
I bought these for my daughter because she has been playing Red Label strings for a few years & her teacher suggested we try these. My daughter loves playing even more now & is excited the way her bow is "gliding across the strings" now. I'd recommend them to any parent trying to figure out what to buy their child

Super strings for super little beginners!
These strings have a nice clear tone and are especially good and durable for young beginners who are just learning to pizzicato and bow.This little student is 2.5 years old holding a 1/16 size violin.

good strings, sometimes flawed
These are really good strings when they work. The sound on my violin is complex, projecting and rich, even enough across registers, and easy to access. I have had the A destroy itself when the winding unraveled. And in my current set, the C sounds slightly false. I'd give these 5 stars when they work; it's just that you can't count on that. Best to keep a second set in your case at all times.

Broken string
I am disappointed in quality of your strings Thomastik Infeld Dominant Viola String Set - Full Size - Medium Gauge. I ordered two sets at 95.99 plus tax for each. I had set put on my sons viola about 3 weeks later and about 2 weeks later a string broke. Fortunately, it didn't break during his audition. He had to replace the string with the spare string. According to your return policy we are not eligible for a return. I hope that the second strings last longer. How can we insure we are not receiving old strings?

Don't hold their tune
I usually use Visions on this violin. I thought I'd try these strings. Once strings settle, they usually hold their tune really well on this instrument, whether it's between use or during play. In either case, after several weeks with these stings, I can say they don't hold their tune well. The sound is okay, although not as good as with Visions. The E string is rather shrill, which is unpleasant, as people usually comment how sweet the E string is on this instrument. Have to play a wedding in two weeks and finally decided I can't have such an unreliable set on the instrument.

Great A String as Well!
I have been using these strings on my violas for a couple of years now with my usual A string by another maker. I decided to try the Eva Pirazzi Gold A string that comes with this set. I like it very much. It is a steel core A string like I am used to, but it has a rounder less harsh tone. For me it's a real improvement. By the way shipping on my order was amazingly fast! I suspect relativistic travel!

Very nice, very pleased.
When I upgraded my violin about a year ago it came with Dominants on it. I was pretty excited because my teacher had them. I loved the G and D strings! They have a very full, mellow tone. However, I was disappointed with the A and E strings. I thought the A was somewhat nasally and the E was a bit weak with a slight shrillness. I began searching for a different brand. I came across the Corellis and read lots of reviews. They appeared to be just what I was looking for. I ordered a set. I am very pleased with them! The G and D are very good, unfortunately not as nice as Dominants. The A and E are quite satisfactory. The A matches the D well, and the E is vibrant without any tininess or harshness.
