Josep Caballé-Domenech conductor
Mahler Symphony No. 6
“Despite [Beethoven’s] Pastoral, there is only one Sixth.” Such was the impact of Gustav Mahler’s sixth symphony when it premiered in 1906, that it completely supplanted the great master of the previous century in the eyes of the classical music-listening public. Presented here without accompaniment or adornment, it promises to be the most thrilling installment yet in Josep Caballé-Domenech’s exploration of Mahler’s symphonies — in his words, a “mastodontic” performance.
