Now 6 years old, my violin, crafted by the master maker Rock Eggen, is a modern hybrid of the older traditions of Maggini and the Amatis. She is a beauty to the eyes, with a wide grained spruce top and a distinctive poplar back that reminds me of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” Its tone is as sweet as it is sorrowful. I love this violin, and hope to play it until the day I won’t be able to, but then have the privilege to go on listening to it in the hands of a violinist who can awaken its voice, too.
