It is with great sorrow that we announce that Stan Ruttenberg passed away on February 12, 2017.
Stan was an amazing man who gave so much of himself to everything he did. To learn more about him, please click here.
Stan was the President Emeritus of the Colorado MahlerFest, a cherished friend to all, and a brilliant source of inspiration. He was one of the two main pillars on which the MahlerFest was built and the festival would not be here or be what it is without the countless monumental contributions he made over the past three decades. Stan was the longest serving board president, from MahlerFest V in 1992 through MahlerFest XX in 2007.
For many of us, until he stepped down from day to day participation, he was the voice and face of everything MahlerFest. He was its energy, its direction, its purpose, its proponent. He contributed in every possible way – ways both visible and obvious to the musicians, guests and audience and ways invisible and realized by few. In recent years, he was still active as a board member, providing invaluable guidance and wisdom.
Stan was a friend of Henry-Louis de La Grange whom the Mahler world lost just a few weeks earlier. It is comforting to imagine them now walking together, as they did near Toblach, resuming their conversations and debates about the composer to whom each dedicated an enormous amount of their life and energy.
Thank You Stan – you are irreplaceable and will always be in the hearts and memories of everyone associated with the Colorado MahlerFest. We are forever in your debt.
