Institutional Access Options for NEJM.org

If your institution already subscribes to NEJM.org, there are a number of remote access options for full access while off-campus.

Link your personal NEJM.org account to your institution’s subscription to get the same access you have at work or school – anytime, anywhere, and from any personal device.

Note: You must be logged in to your institutional network to pair your institution’s NEJM access rights to your NEJM.org account. If you can access your IP network by remote means, like VPN, then you do not have to be physically on campus.

Pairing your free account with an institution’s access is easy. To enable remote access:

  • Sign in to – or be present within – your institution’s network/IP range.
  • Simultaneously sign in to your NEJM.org account. If you don’t have one, you can create one.

Upon sign-in or account creation using the links above, you will be taken to My Account. On the left side, you should see Institutional Remote Access (or in the drop-down on mobile).

If you click into this section of My Account, you can easily monitor your remote-access status, affiliations, and expiration dates.

Your institution’s access rights will be automatically applied to your personal NEJM.org account for 180 days. Every time you sign in to your NEJM.org account while logged in to your institution’s network, your remote access is automatically reauthenticated for another 180-day period.

If you are connected to your institution’s network and searching for articles using Google Scholar, Google automatically creates an affiliation between you and your institution. With Google CASA (Campus Activated Subscriber Access), this affiliation follows you when you take your device off-site and off-network, and you will have your full institutional subscription access to articles on nejm.org. Once the affiliation is created, it is valid for 90 days. To reauthenticate, simply log back into your institution’s network and use Google Scholar to search for content.

If your institution uses OpenAthens, Shibboleth, or an SSO service such as Microsoft Azure or Okta to access the e-journals to which it subscribes, sign in for immediate access to NEJM.org.

Follow your institution’s suggestions to access subscribed resources when outside of the institution’s IP range.

If your institution doesn’t subscribe to NEJM.org, request institutional access now.
